Swiss Family and Robinson is a book by Johann Wyss of a family stranded on a tropical island near New Guinea. The book contains all the intrinsic details of a true survival guide.

This book's got all the adventures you been looking for! A Swiss family going on a voyage in the open sea only to find themselves in the middle of the ocean. The family survives despite all the hardships presented by the sea. The story takes a crucial turn only when the entire shipmen including the captain and all the onboard members die. Only the Swiss family survive. The family spot a wild island ahead of them.
The survival instinct in them helps them start a new life in the uninhabited island.

The characters in the story are, William Robinson( who is the narrator), his wife Elizabeth and their children Robinson, Earnest, Jack, and Fritz Robinson.

The family start their own farm, grow potatoes, tame cocks, eagles, donkey and even a monkey.
The family discovers many wilderness on the island. One by one the truth unravels.

Together, they build a treehouse that they proudly name 'Falconhurst'.

The family build a house for their stay during the rainy season, they even have a cave where they spend the cold winter.

After about a decade the family learn that there is a girl named Jenny in the uninhabited island. Jenny is the daughter of a great British Officer. Eventually, a British ship that is in search of Jenny anchors near the island and is discovered by the family. The captain is given the journal containing the story of their life on the island, written by William which is eventually published. Several members of the family choose to continue to live tranquility on their island while several of them return to Europe with the British.
